This workshop provides an overview of the development of an expressive arts therapy group that has been running in the Medicine Hat Community for seven years. The workshop will include a sample session and sharing of ideas and information about group process and challenges.

Carla Thorogood is a Registered Canadian Art Therapist working in a school district and running private practice in Medicine Hat Alberta. Carla started working as an art therapist in Medicine Hat 12 years ago. The work has been a calling for her for many years and is informed deeply by her life experiences as an emigrant, immigrant, artist, mother, grandmother and promoter of well being. Over the last few years her work has expanded out increasingly into the community where she runs groups and a private practice that welcomes clients of all ages.

Lily Laurent is a curious individual who enjoys creatively exploring the complexity of life. She has a fine arts background, a BSW and a clinical MSW. Currently working in private practice (Infusion Counselling) and as a Behavior Health Consultant for the Palliser PCN, Lily draws from training in cognitive behavioral approaches, mindfulness practice, positive psychology and the expressive arts. Lily works with children, adults, couples and families providing crisis intervention and clinical services to address diverse issues, gain insight, develop coping strategies and discover potential.
